Susan Rice Alexander, America’s Truffle Icon, talked to Fox TV and the Wall Street Journal about her new Black Diamond French Truffle products; truffle potato chips, truffle Margarita rimmer salt and truffle popcorn.  And we’re not talking chocolate. Truffles are a fungus that grow underground on the roots of trees and can sell for some $2,000 a pound. Alexander is growing the largest U.S. truffle farm on 200 acres near Pinehurst, North Carolina. Truffles mostly grow in Europe and are prized by chefs as a culinary delicacy. Alexander hopes to bring the truffle to the American dinner table in products that won’t break the bank.
