If aliens were to look at Google’s recent report Zeitgeist 2011: How the World Searched, they would likely conclude humans are a fickle bunch. I would agree with them…after all, I wouldn’t dare disagree with aliens, even if they were cute or funny – cue Mars Attacks.

Fickle or not, we did a lot of searching, err, googling in 2011. To help us reflect upon another wild year, the good people at Google analyzed the billions of queries typed into their search bar to give us a glimpse of 2011 as seen through the lenses of the world’s most popular search engine.

Interestingly, when researchers drilled down locally, they found local news outlets were among the most-searched terms. For instance, Pittsburgh’s top five search terms were all related to local news stations.

2011 has been a bit of a rough and tumble year for me. I am glad I made another trip around the sun, although I could do without the last two months of wall-to-wall coverage of a certain Denver Broncos quarterback. Kidding aside, what matters most to me are my family and my health. And I am happy to say going into the new year that I have both. So, here’s to a Happy 2012 to you and yours.
